How to open a bank account in Finland as a foreigner
Updated
Contents
You can open a bank account in Finland as a foreigner, but the requirements depend on the bank and on whether you already have a Finnish personal identity code (henkilötunnus). The table below shows which banks in our data allow opening an account without one.
Every person legally resident in the EEA has the right to basic banking services: a basic payment account, a payment instrument such as a debit card, online banking credentials, cash withdrawals, payment transactions and an e-identification means. Credit accounts and credit cards are not included. A bank can refuse mainly for customer due diligence reasons, for example if you have no valid passport or ID card. Banks must process an application within 10 banking days and give written reasons for a refusal free of charge, with appeal instructions. Sources: FINE: basic banking services and FINE FAQ (Finnish).
