Tap to Pay, Stripe's note: According to Stripe's documentation, many cards in Finland are offline PIN cards: entering the PIN requires physical contact with the device, which Tap to Pay does not support. Stripe recommends a card reader or a payment link as a fallback. This is a technical note from one provider, not independent research. It probably also applies to the Tap to Pay apps of other providers, but this has not been checked. Source: Stripe: Tap to Pay.

Monthly cost = monthly fee + percentage x card sales + fixed fee x number of payments. For the share of international cards, the international percentage is used. First year = 12 x monthly cost + device. If the provider has an optional subscription (for example SumUp's Maksut Plus), the cheaper of the standard price and the subscription is used, and the pricing used is shown in the result. The Tap to Pay surcharge and payout fees are included when the provider states them. The device is the cheapest physical reader by one-off price, and the rent of a rented terminal is already in the monthly fee. Prices are as stated by the providers, mostly excluding VAT, and provider-specific conditions are shown in the labels. The estimate does not include optional subscriptions, settlement fees or campaigns.

The terminal and card acquiring are two different things

EU law defines an acquirer as a payment service provider that enters into a contract with a payee for accepting and processing card-based payment transactions, which results in a transfer of funds to the payee. Some providers sell the device and card processing together, in which case a separate card acquiring agreement is not needed. The money then usually goes first to the provider's own account. Providers

Method

The comparison covers card payment solutions that are offered to a Finnish small business as self-service or at a public price list. All figures were collected on 16 October 2026 from the providers' own Finnish price list and product pages, and no third-party comparisons were used. Prices are standard prices, and promotions are described in the notes. Percentages and fixed fees apply to card payments accepted in person. The price for domestic cards means the fee for domestic or EEA consumer cards on the standard plan. The price for international cards applies to cards issued outside the EEA or to international cards. If the price for international cards is not shown, it is tied to the interchange fee or has not been published. The monthly fee is the cheapest mandatory monthly cost of accepting card payments, including a mandatory account subscription or terminal rental, excluding one-off device purchases. The Tap to Pay surcharge per transaction is included when the provider states it. The VAT basis shows whether the device and monthly prices are stated excluding or including VAT. If the provider's page does not say, the VAT basis is marked as unknown. Payment services may be exempt from VAT, but the sale of devices is subject to VAT. Payment links and online payments are marked only if the same provider also offers them. Finnish-language support is marked only if the provider's page mentions support in Finnish or support that operates in Finland. Missing or unclear information is left empty (not known), and the reason is given in the notes. Adyen was left out because it has no self-service for small businesses: pricing is set through sales and with an industry-specific minimum invoice. OP does not publish its own card terminal prices but refers customers to its partners Verifone and Nets at special prices. Nordea's merchant services are provided by Worldline, and it is included as Worldline (Nordea).
