Finnish bank ID (pankkitunnukset) are online banking credentials that also work as strong electronic identification for many public and private services in Finland. You get them when you open an account with a bank that offers them.

Strong electronic identification means in Finland are banks' online banking credentials, telecom operators' mobile certificates, the citizen certificate on the police-issued ID card, and some organisation-card-based services. The assurance level is either substantial or high. Providers must notify Traficom, and the NCSC-FI supervises them and keeps the public register of identification service providers. Why do I need bank ID in Finland?

Many services, such as tax, healthcare and online shopping, use strong identification. Having bank ID makes daily life much easier.

How do I get Finnish bank ID?

Banking credentials with strong identification require a Finnish personal identity code and identification with a passport or ID card from an EEA state, Switzerland or San Marino; banks may accept other passports (FINE FAQ, Finnish). If you hold a non-EEA passport, expect an identification visit to the police to get a strong e-ID (Nordea).
