Deposit guarantee and taxation
Norwegian deposit guarantee (Bankenes Sikringsfond), €100,000 per depositor per bank. No Finnish branch, so the Financial Stability Authority does not take part in the compensation process.
Withholding tax: not withheld in Finland, declare it yourself. Finnish withholding tax is not withheld, so you declare the interest yourself. Interest you declare yourself is capital income: 30% up to €30,000 and 34% on the part above that. Foreign tax under a tax treaty is credited in Finland against the tax that Finland imposes on the same income, but not more than the tax that would be payable in Finland on the income. If the source state has collected more than the tax treaty allows, the excess tax is not credited in Finnish taxation, and a refund is claimed from the source state.
